Sleeping midget
This is a tough one. For the last couple of months I was reading and also watching people pointing fingers at “the church” and it’s lack of impact in the community and the world and various other stages.
I have to admit that I too was somewhat ready to say “what is the church doing about (insert hot topic here)”.
This is just the way God spoke to me, in the context of my personal growth. He called me out on it. I was presented with hard questions and tough realisations.
Who/what is “the church” that does not impact?
I realised that it is easy to pass the buck. Blaming “the church”. I was blaming the church for being lethargic, questioning it’s silence in the very areas that I haven’t done anything. Who is the church? This sleeping giant?
The sleeping giant is made up of sleeping midgets. At least for me, I don’t see a big body of sleeping cells doing anything fantastic.
Funny that God would almost say “Wake up sleeping midget”. I had this picture of Gulliver. If you’ve read “Gulliver in the land of the Lilliputs” you’ll know that this Giant was bound by 100’s of midgets. I had that picture of the church, the giant, being tied down by midgets. And the midgets say “the church” is not doing anything.
I am one of those midgets. By not doing anything, i’ve contributed a few meters of rope to tie the giant. This is the month where I begin seek God for that passion, passion to move, to grow and to be a doer of the Word.
While I’m sure many people have different views, this was more of a personal context during a period when I was lethargic. Nonetheless, I think if individuals indulged in God’s will and were doers of the word, there would not be a sleeping church.
